Queen Of Hearts

Hahahah, Queen of Slackers is more like it.

It's been a while since I wrote something here...I just haven't had the energy, and I've had a few wonderful folks tell me that's ok.

But when I think about it, really think about it, there are many reasons why I've let grippingtruth slip a bit lately.

One of the reasons is simply because I wish grippingtruth didn't have to exist...

I think it's safe to say that all of us that stand on this side of the line wish the last attack, was that, the last attack...but it won't be, and that is disheartening.  It's tough sometimes to keep feeding a beast, sometimes I wish the beast would just be full, no more room for anymore.

But for that to happen, they have to see, they have to understand, they have to get over their incessant want to own pitbulls, and they have to see clearly to the danger they put society in.

And with that said, and realized, grippingtruth continues to be needed, because they simply won't, can't or don't care...

For those of us lucky enough to still have our children, those who survived their attacks, life goes on.  And now this many months from what happened to our little man, we see that, understand it, and are grateful.  Trips are now planned, treatments of his scars are now underway in earnest, and he's growing up.  Seems that should be enough, why not just take myself out of the back and forthing, the exhausting back and forthing (it's so tiring and never fucking ending).

A kind soul told me this place was necessary for people in the early stages of the aftermath of a tragic event in their families, whether their child or pet was attacked by the breed most people assume.  I've taken some time to contemplate that, and feel very honoured to be regarded in that way.  Today I spent some time going back and reading some of my entries, wow, have we all come a long ways.  And I guess my reflection has allowed me to see that maybe this place can help others the same way it simply helped me...

There are so many of us out there, willing to stick with the bullshit the nutters shovel...to deal with their bravado of screenshots, mockery and lies.  My skin is so much thicker than it used to be, yours will be too...and the timing in which we all deal varies, and ebbs and flows, but once you are in, you're in...I find I can't turn it off, or turn it away because it keeps happening....I simply do my part, sometimes it's a lot, sometimes it's less, but big or small, it all matters.  And if my part can help lead one parent to listen to their gut and not allow their child around the pit their neighbour says wouldn't hurt a fly, then it's all been worth it.

  1. they talk about educating us when the fact is weve already been educated , a lot of us , and no amount of bull talk is ever going to make us forget .

  2. I just don't understand the pit bull advocates. They seem to have lots of time on their hands, trying to defend the indefensible with endless idiotic 'arguments.'
Am guessing that many of them are involved in the pet industry, as breeders or as providers of dog-related services; and that another major group of pit bull advocates are the dogfighters.

I am glad I found this blog. Makes me believe in humanity again.

I think the real problem is the pit bull advocates are activists and the rest of us are insufficiently active and we allow ourselves to be victimized by accepting a situation where dogs can do great damage and their owners get away with little or no punishment or accountability.
The moment every dog owner is treated like an adult and made to pay thru the nose for damage done by their dog, the dog owners will suddenly 'find religion.'
We need to form organizations that support dog victims, provide legal assistance, educate, and advocate for protection from dogs.

  3. I agree. If your dog kills someone or puts someone in the hospital the dog should be put down, no appeals, no second, third, ad nauseum chances; and the owner should be criminally charged and do jail time-I don't care if it's one day, and community service, EVERY TIME. The medical bills should legally attach to the dog owner and if they have nothing else (funny how they're so broke when their mauler harms someone but up to that point have enough money to keep several dogs) their wages need to be garnished for the rest of their life.

  4. Agreed. A major step would be getting insurers to not extend home owners coverage to those with bulldogs and relatives thereof. County and private adoption agencies must also be made liable. If they say an animal is safe for a family or neighborhood they should face liability for their incompetence that causes harm to a human or domestic animal. County officials are elected, they are subject to recall and can be voted out of office. Start a campaign for change. It's hard to believe anyone wouldn't want to protect people but it's also hard to believe VAWA wasn't promptly passed.
